August 1: Verona
A gentle train ride from Mantua to Verona and it is off on another adventure -- this time without the bike. Verona dating back to the 3rd century BC was a Roman trade center. During the time of Shakespeare it became the home to three of his plays -- Romeo and Juliet, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and The Taming of the Shrew. It is also the home of the Italian Opera Festival celebrated every year in August in its 3rd century BC Forum.
